Compare New and Remanufactured Computers by Carbon Footprint
Use case: Comparing end user computing devices by carbon footprint before purchasing can reduce environmental impact by as much as 82%. IT, procurement and sustainability teams use this application to compare end user computing device carbon footprints ahead of purchase from your usual supplier.
Why: Countries and regions have differing amounts of carbon in their electricity grids due to differing levels of renewable energy adoption. Manufacturer product carbon footprint reports use fixed locations of use (e.g. USA) and a specific number of years of use (e.g. 3 years) meaning that the reports are not comparable between brands. Additionally, if your company is not located in the selected country or keeps devices for a different number of years then the data is not valid to represent the carbon footprint of the device when purchased by your organisation. The information generated by the Dynamic Carbon Footprint application is comparable and relevant to your organisation because you can select the location of use and the number of years you will use the device.
Outcome: Doing so will enable you to select low carbon footprint devices with context and confidence to reduce your organisation’s IT carbon footprint and achieve compliance with new sustainable IT product procurement and use legislation.
Functions:
- Thousands of new and remanufactured devices ranked by carbon footprint, scope 2 (electricity) or scope 3 (supply chain) GHG emissions
- Filter by product type (e.g. notebook, desktop, monitor etc.)
- Filter by brand (e.g. Acer, ASUS, Circular Computing, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft etc.)
- Set your company / department / organisation location to ensure scope 2 electricity GHG emissions are relevant (e.g. by country, region or worldwide)
- Set the number of years your organisation will potentially keep the device to ensure scope 3 supply chain GHG emissions are relevant
- Search for key words (e.g. screen size, model name, model number etc.)
- Compare several devices side by side to narrow your search
- Generate and download/share a bespoke product carbon footprint report for the device of your choice
Credibility: The Px3 Dynamic Carbon Footprint application is the only scientifically validated tool in the world that can enable you to compare thousands of new and remanufactured desktop computers, laptops, tablets, thin clients and monitors from brands such as Acer, Apple, Asus, Dell, Circular Computing, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft by carbon footprint and on a level playing field. Developed by PhD research with one of the world’s leading computer science faculties at the University of Warwick, the application is already used by commercial and public sector organisations responsible for millions of devices.

Description
Compare New and Remanufactured Computers by Carbon Footprint
Comparing devices by carbon footprint before purchasing can reduce environmental impact by as much as 82%.
This is because two similar devices, that have both achieved energy and eco-certification, can range from as little as 99 kgCO2e to as much as 560 kgCO2e GHG emissions
Taking this extra step can also help organisations become compliant with new IT procurement legislation that requires newly purchased devices to be selected using sustainability as a criterion.
The Px3 Dynamic Carbon Footprint application is the only scientifically validated tool in the world that can enable you to compare thousands of new and remanufactured desktop computers, laptops, tablets, thin clients and monitors from brands such as Acer, Apple, Asus, Dell, Circular Computing, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft by carbon footprint and on a level playing field.
Created during PhD research with the University of Warwick and Warwick Business School, the Px3 Dynamic Carbon Footprint tool is already helping procurement teams responsible for over 3 million users to select low carbon footprint devices
Using a simple and intuitive menu, select the type of device you are interested in (e.g. notebook), how long your organisation may keep the device, what region or country the device is most likely to be used and perhaps the brand, if you have a preference.
Press one button and in less than one second the application will stack rank new and remanufactured devices by carbon footprint or energy efficiency or scope 3 supply chain GHG emissions; the choice is yours.
Using the compare function, select the device that you fits your needs. Then with one click, produce a bespoke product carbon footprint report that meets international GHG accounting protocol and product lifecycle assessment reporting standards.
Uniquely, the carbon footprint data will be based on where your company operates and for the device lifespan you selected; which isn’t something you can’t do with standard manufacturer reports.
Armed with accurate information, you can then proceed to buy the device via your usual supplier safe in the knowledge that you are driving climate action by accurately selecting low carbon footprint products.
Subscription is for a period of 12-months and the price excludes local taxes (such as VAT)
